Embracer completed its acquisition of Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal, adding Marvel’s Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, and Thief into its library. Following Embracer Group’s recent acquisitions, the company is reportedly in talks with Marvel to establish a new game deal.
Embracer Talks with Marvel for a New Game Deal
Marvel’s Avengers has always been an uncertain franchise for both the players and the publisher. Along with Guardians of the Galaxy, the game has already cost Square Enix (original IP owner) $200 million in losses.
According to an insider, Miller, who has previously reported on other industry developments, it doesn’t seem like they will stop soon. He stated that Embracer Group is now in talks with Marvel on a partnership far beyond Avengers. So players can expect more story content and characters in the future.
Embracer also hopes to strike a partnership with Marvel beyond this game. This means several other Marvel games or cooperation with other IPs owned by the company could be in the works.
I suspect Avengers will live and that will be announced when the Embracer/Marvel deal closes. Brass tacks: The Crystal Dynamics acquisition has now officially happened and I’m hearing work continues on Avengers relatively unabated. Things can change, but that’s where we stand.

Eidos Montreal developed the Guardians of the Galaxy, and Crystal Dynamics developed the Avengers, and both are currently under the Embracer banner. Embracer Group dominated the industry. It has more than 230 titles under development and over 120 game companies.
We know that more Marvel games are on the way. EA is supposedly working on two titles, one of which is allegedly Black Panther, and Ubisoft denied rumors of a Blade game. Also, Uncharted creator Amy Hennig is working on a Marvel game, which will be shown off during Disney’s September showcase next month. Insomniac is also developing Wolverine and Spider-Man 2.
