Embracer Group has been on a purchasing spree recently, and the latest acquisitions by the company are the rights to The Lord Of The Rings / Hobbit IP and several game-development studios.

In total, the company has made five acquisitions apart from the Lord of The Rings properties. Namely Limited Run Games, Tuxedo Labs, Tripwire Interactive and Singtrix. The acquisitions were announced by Embracer Group through a press release.

The Lord Of The Rings

The largest acquisition of note is definitely Middle-Earth Enterprises. This gives Embracer group the rights to all of J.R.R. Tolkien’s work related to The Lord of The Rings IP. This is not limited to games, as it includes movies, shows, and even merchandise. In the press release the company said:

The future plans of the company regarding the newly acquired IP consist of exploring additional movies based on iconic characters such as Gandalf, Aragorn, Gollum, Galadriel, Eowyn, and others in Tolkien’s expansive universe.

Limited Run Games

Limited Run Games was also acquired by Embracer Group, and mentioned in the press release. The company specializes in physical editions of games which include retro titles. The company cited this as one of the main reasons for the purchase along with “the development technology Carbon Engine that ports retro games to modern platforms.”

Tripwire Interactive And Singtrix

Mostly known for Maneater and Killing floor, Tripwire will continue to function as it did before the acquisition, working on the same future projects.

Singtrix was acquired due to its voice-processing technology used in karaoke and video games. Embracer Group expects that the company will grow in terms of technology and enter a broad range of franchises.

Tuxedo Labs

The valuation of Tuxedo Labs has not been disclosed yet. The main reason for this purchase seems to be the physics-tech used in Teardown. Embracer Group believes that Tuxedo Labs has the potential to become a “standard-bearing platform” for physics simulation in video games.

Secret Acquisition By Embracer Group

The final acquisition has not been revealed yet and no detail was provided about the company. The only thing mentioned was that the company functions within the PC/Console space.

Embracer Group has already struck big with the studios acquired from Square Enix for a relatively paltry sum. And it seems it has no plans of slowing down anytime soon.
