Elgato was in full force at CES with a collection of new products, and The Verge reported on a specific new item that caught our eye with the Elgato Key Light.  The Key Light is a new option for high-end studio lighting for streaming at a fraction of the cost compared to complete lighting setups. It will be available during the week of January 13th and retail for $199.

A few highlights of the product from a recent press release:

  • App-enabled: adjust settings via your screen for accurate real-time feedback
  • Ultra-bright and adjustable: 2500 lumens and fully dimmable
  • Versatile color temperature: 2900-7000 K produces cold through warm white
  • Glare-free diffusion: opal glass face ensures balanced lighting
  • No-sweat comfort: keeps heat impressively low compared to softboxes
  • Streamlined design: flat profile and extendable metal desk mount save space
  • Works with Stream Deck: direct integrations for one-touch control

Why are we excited about it over here at The Nerd Stash? The space saving aspect of the Key Light sounds amazing. Having it clamp onto a desk and eliminate at least some of the streaming clutter is huge. Also, having it effortlessly work with the rest of the Elgato ecosystem and being app-enabled out of the box are nice perks. The price point is very fair for the quality of the product. Considering the checklist grows every year for what you need to be a successful and professional streamer, having something as important as lighting be an afterthought with the right product can save a lot of headaches in the future.
