Despite its lackluster Unique Skill, the Serpent-Hunter Spear has a lot of poking attacks, making it great for playing keep away. For spear and polearm aficionados, YouTuber Krypton Sean has made a pretty good Elden Ring video about Serpent-Hunter Spear Strength build, which can be used for both PvE and PvP. Continue reading below if you can’t watch the 28-minutes video or need a text guide.
Serpent-Hunter Spear Stats
For starters, the Serpent-Hunter Spear does not have any stats requirements whatsoever. This means any build — in theory — can utilize this weapon as they see fit. Nevertheless, there is a stat that fits more with the weapon’s playstyle, and that is Strength. Since it has B STR and E DEX scaling. Once upgraded to +10 Serpent-Hunter, the STR scaling also rises to A.
With that in mind, you want to focus on Strength to take advantage of the scaling as well as boost your damage. It’s fine to disregard Dexterity since the scaling is low, and you won’t be using light equipment. You also want to get some Endurance to increase your Stamina and Equip Load. Keep the rest as base stats. This is Krypton Sean’s stats spread at level 86 when using the Hero Class:
- Vigor: 47
- Mind: 9
- Endurance: 20
- Strength: 54
- Dexterity: 9
- Intelligence 7
- Faith: 8
- Arcane: 11
The Serpent-Hunter Spear can only be found once in-game, on a corpse to the left of the Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy’s arena entrance. If you beat Rykard without picking up the weapon, it will disappear, and according to the Fextralife wiki, this weapon won’t respawn even in New Game Plus. Keep that in mind if you haven’t completed the game yet.
Elden Ring Serpent-Hunter Spear Armor and Equipment
In terms of armor, this is what Krypton Sean is using for their Serpent-Hunter build:
- Crucible Axe Helm
- Veteran’s Armor
- Gelmir Knight Gauntlets
- Veteran’s Greaves
Talismans
To complete the Elden Ring Serpent-Hunter Spear build, the Spear Talisman is a must since it enhances thrusting weapons counterattacks by 13%. All you need to do is to hit an enemy in the middle of their attack animation to get the buff, you don’t have to bait for a Block Counter. You can find it in a chest inside Lakeside Crystal Cave. Spear Talisman is also useful for other Spears, Thrusting Swords, and Bows and Crossbows since it buffs Pierce damages.
Meanwhile, the other Talismans you need for this build are:
- Bull-Goat’s Talisman: Raises poise.
- Great-Jar’s Arsenal: Raises max Equip Load.
- Erdtree’s Favor +2: Raises max HP, Stamina, and Equip Load.
- Crimson Amber Medallion +1: Raises max HP.
Elden Ring is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
