Out of all the optional bosses to defeat in Elden Ring, the Black Knife Assassin is a tough one. If you’re stuck with this mini-boss, our tips should help steer you to victory so you can reap the rewards.

How to Defeat the Black Knife Assassin in Elden Ring

The Black Knife Assassin will live up to his name in Elden Ring. Not only is he an agile annoyance, but he’s also utterly relentless when he does attack. It’s a deadly combination that leaves many players dying and starting the fight all over again.

Of course, he’s completely optional. You don’t have to defeat them all to finish the game or complete quests. But for you completionists or those who just want some extra loot, they’re a necessary obstacle.

So, how do you defeat such a brutal enemy in Elden Ring?

To start, consider using Lone Wolf Ashes. You want to divert attention as much as possible. This way, you’re set up to strike out at him freely. It’s possible to defeat the Black Knife Assassin without this, but it will be more challenging.

The Black Knife Assassin relies heavily on his ability to disappear. He’s cloaked, so you have to rely on your other senses to find him. Listen out for his footsteps. When you’re near, you can force him out of his cloaking ability by striking out. Take care that he doesn’t hit you first because it will deal heavy damage. He only uses a dagger, and he does a lot of lunge-based attacks as well as dodges often to avoid you.

Rather than defending against the attack, focus on rolling and counterattacking instead. A good thing about the Black Knife Assassin in Elden Ring is that he’s easy to stagger. Once he’s staggered, go in on him. Thankfully, he doesn’t have a great defense. A few solid hits should rapidly drain him and lead you to victory.
