Several NPCs can be found in the Lands Between that have their own side quest, with some even affecting the ending that you can get to the game. One such quest comes from the Fia, the Deathbed Companion. This character has become a favorite since she gives a comforting hug to any lowly Tarnished that might need it, though it does come at a price. Outside of this hug, she also has a side quest that involves Godwyn, the first demi-god to perish, and now the Prince of Death, which can lead you to the Duskborn ending. This guide will provide a full breakdown of how to complete the Fia Quest in Elden Ring.
How To Complete Fia’s Quest In Elden Ring
Step 1: Embrace Fia
This can be done the first time you enter the Roundtable Hold, talk to Fia and accept her hug. You will receive a Baldachin’s Blessing. You do not need to keep hold of the item, especially since it will lower your HP, but you do need to hug Fia at least once to initiate the questline.
Step 2: Receive the Weathered Dagger and Give it to D
Once you reach the Altus Plateau, return to Fia and talk to her. She will give you a Weathered Dagger and tell you to return it to its rightful owner. Give the Knife to D, an NPC who sits in the main hall of the Hold. If done, the next time you load in, the door at the end of the hallway past Hewg the Blacksmith will be open with D dead inside. The next time you load the area, Fia will be gone. You now must reach the Deeproot Depths to continue the quest.
Step 3: Meet Ranni and Defeat Starscourge Radahn
This is where Fia and Ranni’s quests intersect as both require you to reach Norkon, the Eternal City. The Nerd Stash has a full guide on how to complete the Ranni quest, but the important parts for this quest are to meet Ranni behind the Carian Manor and then defeat Starscorge Radahn at Redmane Castle in Caelid. Once both of these things are done, you will be able to find the entrance to Norkon in front of Fort Haight in Limgrave. Descend into the hole, get past the Mimic Tear boss, and arrive in the Ancestral Woods. Go to the left and descend into the Night’s Sacred Grounds. At the end of this area will be a giant finger reader statue, which you will find the Finger Slayer Blade underneath.

Step 4: Receive the Cursemark of Death
Return the Finger Slayer Blade to Ranni, and she will give you the Carian Inverted Statue. You can use this to access the Divine Tower of Liurnia. Atop the tower, you will find the Cursemark of Death key item.
Step 5: Travel to The Darkroot Depths
Back in Norkon, run to the right of the Ancestral Woods to find a cave with jellyfish and a Site of Grace. Continue through the cave until you can make a jump to the Siofra Aqueduct. You will find the Valiant Gargoyles boss fight at the end of this area. Defeat them, and next to the Site of Grace in the boss room will be a coffin you can enter. This will bring you to Deeproot Depths. Make your way across the vine system to reach the Unnamed Eternal City. This is where you will find Fia.
Step 6: Give Fia the Cursemark of Death
There will be another system of vines that you will find in the city that will bring you up to a cliffside that has a Site of Grace and a big boss arena. Don’t worry just yet. You will only need to battle Fia’s Champions, a group of NPC that shouldn’t give you too much problem by the time you get here. When they are dealt with, talk to Fia and ask to be held. Continue to talk to her until you are prompted to give her the Cursemark of Death. If you don’t get the prompt, it’s ok. Reload the area until you are given the prompt. Once given, reload the area and talk to her repeatedly until you find her asleep and are prompted to enter her dream.
Step 7: Defeat Lichdragon Fortissax and Get The Mending Rune of Death
Inside the dream is the dark dragon known as Lichdragon Fortissax, and he is a formidable fight. Once you do, eventually fall the beast. Talk to Fia and reload the area until she gives you the Mending Rune of the Death-Prince. This item can be used after defeating the final boss to get the Duskborn ending.
