After getting past Ainsel River’s harrowing Lake of Rot in Elden Ring, Tarnished adventurers have one final trial before concluding Lunar Princess Ranni’s questline — defeating Astel, Naturalborn of the Void. This Legendary Malformed Star guards its lair at the bottom of the Grand Cloister, which is the only route to the Deep Ainsel Well. Therefore, players must defeat this macabre cosmic beast if they wish to reach the Well’s elevator to get to the Moonlight Altar. Astel, Naturalborn of the Void, is a slow-moving boss in Elden Ring with a predictable moveset. Yet, its high damage output and long-reaching abilities can be a challenge for many adventurers.
How To Defeat Astel In Elden Ring
To defeat Astel, the Naturalborn of the Void in Elden Ring, Tarnished must learn to recognize when the boss is vulnerable to attacks. For instance, while the area beneath its abdomen may seem safe from its abilities, the surprisingly extensive AoE range its attacks can reach will catch many players off guard.

Tarnished should think of the boss fight with Astel as a rhythmic dance. Astel does not execute sporadic attacks and will generally follow a predictable pattern. Furthermore, it will often perform “cue” animations before it strikes. Accordingly, players shouldn’t treat this boss like a giant piñata but as a gigantic centipede dancing to a scripted sequence.
Astel’s boss battle in Elden Ring will always start with the boss firing its gravity beam burst at the player. Once Tarnished get closer, it will execute a single or double tail attack. After Astel begins to perform its steady scripted abilities, punish it whenever the beast commits to its overhead Nebula swipe. However, do not be greedy when counterattacking.
Once Astel starts to teleport, always check the left to see if it is coming from the side to grab the player. If not, face the boss and begin dodge-rolling to the left as it casts meteorites from above. Like before, continue punishing the monster whenever it executes an overhead strike, leaving its underside vulnerable. Patiently repeat this process until Astel is dead in Elden Ring.
