Formed by the Rune of Death’s curse on Godwyn’s corpse, Deathroot is a plant in Elden Ring highly sought after by the Gurranq, the Beast Clergyman of the Bestial Sanctum in Caelid. Accordingly, Tarnished must collect this root to feed Gurranq and progress his questline. Every time the player delivers a Deathroot to the Beast Clergyman, they will be rewarded with a Beast-related Incantation, Armament, or Ash of War. There are nine obtainable Deathroots within the Lands Between, and finding them all will net Tarnished an Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone at the end of Gurranq’s questline. Read on to learn all of the Deathroot locations in Elden Ring.

Finding Every Deathroot In Elden Ring

Keep in mind that Deathroot locations in Elden Ring can be visited in any order and can be turned in to Gurranq at any time. The first Deathroot that Tarnished will likely come across will be in Deathtouched Catacombs, a Dungeon in northern Limgrave, west of Saintsbridge.

Elden Ring: Godwyn the Golden, Prince of Death Lore Explained

After defeating the Black Knife Assassin of Deathtouched Catacombs in Limgrave, Tarnished adventurers will receive their first Deathroot. They can discover the second Deathroot slightly to the east of Deathtouched Catacombs at Summonwater Village. A low-level Tibia Mariner will spawn here, summoning their skeletal minions to assault the player. Nevertheless, once defeated, the Field Boss will drop a Deathroot.

The third Deathroot location in Elden Ring is a small unnamed swamp southwest of Carian Study Hall in Liurnia. Players must defeat another Tibia Mariner to acquire the root. The fourth root can also be found in Liurna, specifically in Black Knife Catacombs to the north. However, this time the item is somewhat elusive since it is only accessible by slaying the secret boss of Black Knife Catacombs, an elite Black Knife Assassin. The boss’s lair can be discovered by striking an illusionary wall at the end of the hallway next to the drop to the main boss chamber door lever.

Next, the fifth Deathroot is obtained from a third Tibia Mariner in Altus Plateau at the Wyndhan Ruins, north of Erdtree-Gazing Hill. Tarnished can find the sixth Deathroot location in Elden Ring within the Red Wolf boss chamber of Gelmir Hero’s Grave. This Dungeon can be encountered along the way to Volcano Manor. The Giants’ Mountaintop Catacombs holds the seventh root, requiring players to slay the Dungeon’s Ulcerated Tree Spirit. Tarnished pilgrims will find another Deathroot in Mountaintops of the Giants atop a ridge south of Castle Sol. Here, players will face the last Tibia Mariner in the game. The ninth and final Deathroot location in Elden Ring is in the Hidden Path to the Haligtree. Similar to the Black Knife Catacombs, the root is acquired by defeating the Dungeon’s hidden boss, a Stray Mimic Tear. Players can find this boss by using the same Illusory bridge for getting the Silver Scarab Talisman.

Elden Ring is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
